Anti Dams Protest at KLCC

 

More than a hundred of Orang Asal( indigenous peoples) affected by various mega dam projects from Sarawak, Sabah and Pahang, and supporters from various states including Kelantan, Perak, Melaka and Johor, today stormed KLCC to protest against mega dam projects in Malaysia. This event was held as response to the international conference on hydropower called ASEAN POWER WEEK which is being conducted in KLCC for 3 days.

Baram Dam, Kaiduan Dam, Tambatuon Dam,
Telom Dam, and Temengor dam were giving
speech to the public at the entrance of convention hall. Chairman of SAVE Rivers, Peter Kallang managed to handover a memorandum against the proposed Baram Dam to a representative of Sarawak Energy Berhad(SEB).

Thomas Jalong, president of JOAS urged the participants of the conference not to support and involve in this kind of mega dam projects which would not only destroying the ecosystem but jeopardizing the natives who depend upon the land and rivers for their livelihood as well.

The peacefull assembly lasted for about an hour. Also present to show solidarity were Aru and Suresh of PSM, YB Lee Chean Chung of PKR, Dr.Kua Kia Soong of SUARAM and several others.

We Don't Want to be a DAM and DAMN nation

Orang Asal communities affected by existing and proposed mega dams in Sabah, Sarawak and Semenanjung Malaysia especially Pahang state will gather in Kuala Lumpur tomorrow(10/9/2014) to voice their concern, discontent and anger against various mega dam projects which jeopardizing their land and livelihood.

Protest to Stop Mega Dams(抗议巨型水坝集会）

Orang Asal communities affected by various mega dam projects in Sarawak, Sabah and Pahang and members of the civil society will protest on 10th Sept, at KLCC. Similar demonstration was carried out on 26th Sept 2013 to protest against the Murum Dam and Proposed Baram Dam infront of the Parliament.

受巨型水坝计划影响的沙巴，砂拉越和彭亨州原住民社群以及公民社会成员将于本月10日假吉隆坡双子塔进行集会抗议。去年9月26日，类似抗议也在国会大厦前进行，此为纪录片。

Penghulu Paul who support Baram Dam can not represent the Baram people

Anthony Lawai Karing from Long San said, the Penghulu Paul of Baram who claimed himself to speak for the people of Baram and supporting the construction of the proposed Baram Dam are not qualified to do so.

Anthony Lawai said Penghulu Paul never called them for discussion and meeting to ask their opinion on the proposed Baram Dam project. Futher more, he is not living in Baram and would not suffer from consequences of the project.

巴南区原住民兼前公务人员Anthony Lawai Karing声称，该区村长（penghulu Paul)没有资格宣传自己代表所有巴南居民支持拟建巴南水坝计划。

他说：“村长从来不曾和居民会面或讨论，以询问我们对巴南水坝计划的意见。而且他也不住在巴南，将来不会受到水坝计划的负面影响。”

Beberapa ketua kaum Kayan dan Kenyah dari Ulu Baram mendakwa bahawa mereka tidak pernah menolak projek pembinaan Empangan Baram dan mereka yang menyaman kerajaan Negeri Sarawak di mahkamah bukan wakil rumah panjang.

数名巴南区长屋长老在记者会上声称他们从来没有反对过巴南水坝计划，并指责6名将砂州政府等提供上法庭的代表不足以代表他们的长屋和社区。如果在文革时期，这些算不算是反革命份子？

Sarawak akan membina Empangan Baleh dulu(砂将先兴建Baleh水坝)

砂能源公司透露，Baleh水坝的社会评估报告已经完成，Baram水坝的则在进行中；因此该公司将先进行前者的兴建工程。然而，目前巴南上游和中游的原住民拒绝参与社会评估报告的调查，也坚决反对巴南水坝计划。

Sarawak Energy Bhd mengumumkan bahawa laporan impak sosial( SEIA) bagi Empangan Baleh telah siap manakala laporan bagi Empangan Baram masih dijalankan. Empangan Baleh akan dibina dulu. Namun begitu, penduduk Orang Asal Baram telah menolak kajian SEIA dan berpendirian tegas terhadap projek empangan Baram, iaitu, mereka menolak projek tersebut.
